The
Mobile Alumnae Chapter
was chartered as the Beta Eta Sigma Chapter,
on
January 31, 1942. Our chapter proudly celebrates well over six decades of sensational
sisterhood.
The
official chartering of the new chapter was performed by Soror
Minerva
Hatcher Johnson
who was the Southern Regional Director.
There were only ten members and
Evelyn Ware
was elected President of this nucleus group. We proudly
salute these officers and charter members. |

We are blessed to have still among us two
dynamic charter members,
Frances Wilson
Abrams residing
in Washington D.C. and
Thelma Austin Rice
residing in Montgomery, Alabama.
In
1955 and 1976, Mobile Alumnae hosted the Southern Regional
Conferences and spearheaded the establishment of the Cluster
Founders' Day. On April 23, 1972, our chapter established the Iota
Nu City-Wide Chapter encompassing membership of collegiates at the
University of South Alabama, University of Mobile, and Springhill
College. In 2001, Mobile Alumnae hosted the Alabama State Cluster.

Mobile Alumnae purchased the first African American sorority
Community Life Development Center (CLDC) in Mobile County.
Plans are currently underway to upgrade the CLDC into a
state of the art facility.
Mobile Alumnae is also
the home of
Dr. Yvonne Kennedy,
19th National President of Delta Sigma Theta
Sorority, Inc.
We are
over 300 strong as a proud member of the
Southern Region
under the
dynamic
leadership of
Regional Director Cynthia R. Boyd.
