Deltas Exhibiting Lifetime Achievements

Mobile Alumnae truly exemplifies the epitome of success and have become role models in our communities and the sorority as a whole.

We are proud to honor our 19th National President,
Dr. Yvonne Kennedy who was the recipient of the 2004 Mary Church Terrell Award. Pictured is Dr. Kennedy at the Red Hat Luncheon during the Sisterhood Luncheon at the 47th.

More recently, Dr. Kennedy became the recipient of the YWCA's highest honor, the  Lifetime Achievement Award at the Women of Achievement Luncheon for her lifetime accomplishments and inspiration to those who lives she has touched.

 

In addition, we are especially proud to feature accomplishments of our Mobile Alumnae members who have and continue to excel in their endeavors.
Debra Mack
One of two African American females to head a field office for the FBI.  In Mobile, she will be responsible for more than 200 employees which includes 57 agents and 36 counties in southern Alabama. A native of New Orleans, LA, Debra Mack pledged the Beta Gamma chapter in 1974 at Dillard University. She has been featured in the Mobile Press Register and honored in Mobile by various organizations for her historic achievement. We salute and welcome to Mobile Alumnae Soror Mack!

Dr. Juvonda Hodge
First African American Female General Surgeon to practice in Mobile, AL. Her practice is within the  University of South Alabama's Health System. Her many interests include oncology, laparoscopy, and biliary surgery. She is a member of the American College of Surgeons and the National Medical Association. She graduated cum laude from Spelman College in Atlanta and graduated from UMDNJ - New Jersey Medical School in Newark, NJ. Dr. Hodge was honored as the YWCA 2006 Women of Achievement
(Rising Star) noted for her dedication to saving lives and improving the quality of life for others.
Valena McCants  
Recipient of the YWCA 2003 Lifetime Achievement Award. She was cited as an influential force in securing scholarship opportunities for women to colleges and universities throughout the country. Soror McCants was featured in Delta Sigma Theta National Newsletter, January 2004 and in the Delta Dear edition of the Southern Region Gazette for over 57 years of "uninterrupted" service in Delta Sigma Theta.
Marsha Cunningham Dawson was named chief of the US Army Corp of Engineer’s Information Management Planning and Requirements Branch in Mobile, Alabama. Marsha manages a budget of more than $4 million and has been credited with implementing a new process which provides IT support to more than 22 remotely located field offices. Marsha was featured as one of today’s modern-day technology leaders, People to Watch as They Rise in the latest issue of the USBE Information Technology, the US Black Engineer Magazine.
Other Notable Deltas from the Port City:
Alexis Herman
A native Mobilian, born in the Port City in 1948.  On May 9, 1997, she became the 23rd Secretary of Labor in the Clinton administration. She is the  first African-American to be nominated for this prestigious position and the fourth woman to be appointed in 84 years. Her father, Alex Herman, reigned as the first king of the Mobile Area Mardi Gras Association (MAMGA). A portrait of Ms. Herman was unveiled in the US Dept. of Labor in her honor.

  Tina Allen
Infamous Sculpturer and Artist known for creating wonderful depictions of African American Life inclusive of the life sized bust of Martin Luther King and Alex Haley. Tina Allen is a graduate of the University of South Alabama. and the Visual Arts in New York. She was recently honored during a reception as a Distinguished Alumnus of the University of South
Alabama.
