The Five Point Thrust
The
Delta Sigma Theta membership encompasses a widespread of public
service programs. Some of the featured programs of the Mobile
Alumnae Chapter include but is certainly not limited to the
following based on our national
Five Point Thrust:
|
 |
Educational
Development
Educational
Development encompasses many exceptional programs designed
to enhance the career and academic development of our youth.
This may also take on the form of scholarships for college
preparation, academic workshops and mentoring. Members of
the Mobile Alumnae Chapter volunteer countless hours to
mentor our youth. This includes serving as as career day
speakers and role models in which they share their personal
triumphs and achievements in
their professional fields.
The Betty Shabazz
Delta Academy focuses on middle school girls
engaging in math, science experiences and technology, self
esteem workshops, and community service, thus preparing
leaders for the 21st century. |
|
Our
Delteens
are high school seniors who participate in self-esteem and
etiquette workshops, college preparation and tours, cultural
events, career workshops, mentoring and the culminating
activity, the Kaleidoscope. |

Economic Development
Mobile Alumnae’s “Ways and Means” Committee is the financial
back bearer of our chapter. They conduct all chapter
fundraisers, plan workshops in financial planning,
investments, and home ownership. In addition, Mobile Alumnae
supports our nationally sponsored program, Delta Research
and Educational Foundation (DREF), a 501 (c) (3) non-profit
corporation designed to help
strengthen and expand the charitable, educational,
scientific programs of Delta Sigma Theta as well as
organizations featuring similar goals. |

|
|
Each month
Financial Fortitude Workshops
are conducted to address the
aspects of personal finances and planning beginning with a
Smart Money Education Program. We learn how to define goals,
develop a plan to achieve our goals and then learn how to
put the plan into action. |
International Awareness and Involvement
|
In 1955,
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. funded the maternity wing
of the Thika Memorial Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya, East
Africa now called the Mary Sick of the Mission Hospital.
Mobile Alumnae has supported our national effort to assist
with funds used for equipment, property maintenance, program
expansion and the training of practical nurses and midwives.
The addition of the maternity wing in Kenya has resulted in
a decrease in maternal deaths and infant mortality. Read
more about this great initiative at our
national website. |

Political Awareness and Involvement
|
 |
The
Political Action Committee (PAC) of the Mobile Alumnae
Chapter sponsor voter registration drives to increase the
number of voters in our communities and supports efforts
such as Operation Sister Vote. Each year, members of the
PAC spearhead our participation in Delta Days at the State
Capitol in Montgomery, AL and Delta
Days at the Nation's Capitol
in Washington, DC to monitor elections,
public policies, and laws affecting our African American
communities.
Mobile Alumnae participated in the
Mobilization to Montgomery
along with Rev. Jesse Jackson and Dr. Yvonne Kennedy
to support the
full restoration of voting rights for individuals who have
paid their debt to society. |
